Soprano and Tenor section Leaders needed

August 6, 2020 by cflores Leave a Comment

SOPRANO and TENOR section leaders needed

The section leader position is an independent contractor position, without benefits. Both positions are available as of August 15.

St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church in Trumbull, CT, has an established traditional church music program. The choir is composed of around 35 singers, including four professional section leaders (SATB). The choir sings high quality literature ranging from Gregorian chant and polyphony through 21st century repertoire. Section leaders are expected to work well with volunteers, be able to lead sectionals, and have evenness of tone, impeccable intonation and ability to sing straight tone when needed. Although most literature is available ahead of time, excellent sight-reading skills are a must.

Section leaders are required to sing for the following:

• Rehearsals: Wednesday evenings, 7.30pm – 9.30pm (September through mid-June: Corpus Christi)
• Sunday duties: 10.30am High Mass with 10:00am rehearsal.
• Extra services: Thanksgiving Service (Tuesday before Thanksgiving), Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, Confirmation Mass (usually on a Sunday afternoon at 2:30pm), Tenebrae Service (Wednesday of Holy Week), Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Vigil, Easter Sunday, Pentecost Vespers on a Sat. afternoon at 4:00pm, and occasional Tridentine Masses during the year (Sundays at 2:30pm with a rehearsal at 1:00pm).
• Other opportunities for additional income: cantoring for funerals, weddings, and other weekend masses.

Compensation: negotiable/based on experience (some services pay more than others)

Minimum required education: BM (Vocal Performance. Choral conducting experience is a plus)
Preferable: MM in Vocal Performance

To apply please submit a resume, a brief cover letter, and 2-3 YouTube videos to Dr. Carolina Flores at:
