Your Singer MISSED The Concert….What Do We Do? – Use The 5 “E”S

December 19, 2021 by Adam Paltrowitz 1 Comment

Do you have singers who miss your concert?

– Do you have parents of singers who booked a family vacation that conflicts with your concert?

– Do you have singers with personal conflicts that prevent them from attending the concert?

– Do you have singers who get sick the night of the concert?

– Do you have singers who are a no-show at the concert?

How do you handle each situation?

Should these singers make up the concert? If so, how?

Should these singers be penalized for missing the concert?

There is an art to handling these difficult situations. I’ve spent more than two decades finding an appropriate way to handle each situation.

17 (Last Minute) Things to Avoid – to Ensure a Smooth Concert!

December 12, 2021 by Adam Paltrowitz Leave a Comment

Most of what your audience members see and hear at your concert have LITTLE TO DO with how well your ensemble sings.

There are ACTIONS you can take in both our preparation and at our concert to improve our concert greatly.

Most of these actions are overlooked by choral directors.

I know I overlooked many of these actions earlier in my career, but nobody explained these things to me.

I believe most choral directors fall into some, many, or ALL of the 17 pitfalls detailed in this blog post.

If you know these 17 pitfalls, you can avoid them!

11 Pieces I Repeat Every Year

December 5, 2021 by Adam Paltrowitz Leave a Comment

I repeat 11 pieces every year at my winter concert.

These 11 pieces are special to my students and our audiences.

These 11 pieces are easy to learn and passed on from choir member to choir member.

These 11 pieces bring our alumni back year after year.

In this blog post I share these 11 pieces, video recordings of each piece for previous concerts, and other helpful nuggets surrounding these pieces.

It’s not too late to add any one of these pieces to your concert program. I teach all of these in 1 rehearsal and many of these in 10-15 minutes. Some are even taught by rote!

7 LAST MINUTE Holiday Repertoire Ideas that WILL work – even Remotely!

November 28, 2021 by Adam Paltrowitz 1 Comment

While I truly love the holiday season, I don’t like teaching my students Christmas music in September. As a result, my approach is to choose holiday music (Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa) that can be learned quickly, is fun to sing, and can be enjoyed by our audience. These 7 last minute repertoire ideas will work, and most can be downloaded instantly! This post contains specific repertoire suggestions and how to efficiently teach piece within one short rehearsal.
