The Sounds of Stow Chorus under the direction of Barbara Jones welcomes all area singers to join in preparation for their 37th annual Winter Concert, Sunday March 20 at 3:00 p.m. in the auditorium of the Hale School.
We will perform music spanning 2 centuries: Mendelssohn’s beautiful and noble Lauda Sion, Fauré’s beloved Requiem, and a new piece by John Rutter, “Hymn to the Creator of Light” (from the just-published work, The Gift of Life: Six Canticles of Creation), which offers double chorus challenges that resolve in a richly harmonized, consoling, and affirming setting of a hymn to light. In addition, Schumann’s great Romantic piano concerto will be performed by renowned Boston pianist Manu Tokuno.
Rehearsals are Monday nights 7:30-9:30 at First Parish Church, 353 Great Road, Stow starting January 4. Come try us out at our Open Rehearsals, Jan. 4 and 11! Open to all — no auditions are required. You will find a friendly, accomplished group of dedicated singers who gather to enjoy the challenges and rewards of singing great works by great composers, as well as interesting and often recently composed lesser known works. The November and March performances are with full orchestra, with a more informal May program that varies from year to year. For more information please visit soundsofstow.org or call 978-707-9887. We look forward to seeing — and hearing — you in the new year.
