Somebody to love by Queen – performed by Calicantus
Queen, 1976; the English rock band, rising in popularity all over the world, publishes “Somebody to love” and it’s immediately a great success. Forty-five years later, to mark the anniversary of Freddie Mercury’s death on 24 November 1991, Calicantus pays tribute to the singer and the rock band by releasing “Somebody to Love” in this explosive video clip.
For Calicantus, remembering one of the most vital voices of the rock scene of all times 30 years later, also means celebrating the vigour expressed in the “rough” and creative music that the generations of that cultural season of great participation were able to offer the world. This vigour also serves as a statement, namely that life goes on, in particular the life of young people. Even now, they are still pursuing their art and their dreams, with the courage and determination to make an impact in their own time.
This commemorative video clip discloses a tribute to all those who have always fought to consider and give a voice to minorities, against all discrimination and persecution. That is, to show homage to those who fight against AIDS, for human rights all over the world.
A hymn to life, to gender and sexual equality, a hymn to love. The Calicantus Ensemble Project is part of the Calicantus Children’s Choir founded in 1993 by maestro Mario Fontana. Calicantus has become an educational and artistic model on an international level and has won prestigious awards.
The video was recorded at Mauro Fiero’s RSC Recording Studio Canaa and filmed and edited by Fabrizio Paltenghi. In Montreux, the choir was able to visit and film in Queen’s Mountain Studios thanks to the kind permission of the Mercury Phoenix Trust and Casino Barrière. The choir also took part in the in the “Freddie Tours” in Montreux, discovering anecdotes and particularities of Queen, Freddie Mercury, Brian May, John Deacon and Roger Taylor. Together with the young singers of Calicantus, the talented musicians Mirko Roccato on guitar, Mauro Fiero on bass, Andi Appignani on piano, Italo Pesce on drums and the talented Zeno Gatti, a pupil of the choir, as the lead vocals, gave their everything for this production. The artistic direction was entrusted to the choirmaster Mario Fontana.
One song will not change the world. With this new production we want to offer our energy and commitment to help restore joy, courage and participation to the world.
For young people; society’s most precious asset! Don’t stop us now!
