PROJECT : ENCORE™ proudly announces the addition of Jamie Klenetsky Fay’s “Tomaraji na kumo” into the P:E Catalog of Contemporary Choral Music.
A tiny gem (not quite 3 min) for a cappella mixed voices; some divisi, challenging but very tonal. Keywords/concepts: autumn, bittersweet, clouds.
The composer comments: “I have always been amazed by Japanese poetry, especially short poems which are able to convey such complex emotion in one or two phrases. In this poem, the breaking of the clouds signifies the coming of autumn. In my mind, the poet both recognizes the beauty of this moment while mourning summer’s passing. My goal was to express these disparate feelings – loss, perhaps nostalgia, the vastness of the sky, and the ever-changing, but seemingly static, nature of cloud cover.
