Sing with a “drop-in” choir Monday evenings as part of Schola Cantorum Silicon Valley’s Summer Sings Program. Over six consecutive Mondays beginning July 8, Schola Cantorum Silicon Valley will bring together Bay Area vocalists to sing the works of the great composers, under the baton of six top California conductors, for its Summer Sings Program. The program will be held at 7:30 pm at Los Altos United Methodist Church, 655 Magdalena Avenue.
Anyone who’s interested in learning about these masterpieces and singing with a community is invited to attend, and anyone interested in learning about Schola. “You’ll experience a variety of interpretations, leadership styles and repertoire,” says Buddy James, Schola’s new Artistic Director, “a unique situation for choral singers.”
In addition to the health and stress-lowering benefits of making music, Buddy points out another draw: “For one night, you can go on a date with some of the greatest composers ever, and there’s no commitment.”
The schedule for the Summer Sings is:
July 8: Eileen Chang, Founder and Director of the New Choir, San Jose, and Director and Conductor of Honors Choir and Chamber Choir, conducts Bach’s “Magnifica,” and Schubert’s “Mass in G.”
July 15: Lou De La Rosa, Director of Choral and Vocal Studies at West Valley College, conducts Haydn’s “The Creation.”
July 22: Buddy James, Schola Cantorum’s Artistic Director and Director of Choral/Vocal Studies at Cal State University, East Bay, conducts Vivaldi’s “Gloria,” and Fauré’s “Requiem.”
