Created in response to our current social and political moment. BELIEVE ME is a five-minute work for SATB a cappella voices that draws inspiration from Gregorian Chant and Renaissance polyphony while using contemporary harmony, musical texture, and text.
Ryan Homsey composed BELIEVE ME in collaboration with fellow SUNY Purchase College professor Susan Kouguell. As artists and creators, we felt compelled to write this piece to give voice to the stories and debates that our society is engaged in. We have made it accessible to a wide range of choirs, from community, college, and faith-based choirs to semi-professional and professional ones.
In the spirit of promoting positive social change, there is no commission fee required to collectively share the world premiere, nor is there any charge to purchase or make copies of the sheet music. To download the score, listen to a MIDI realization, and learn more about us, visit BELIEVE ME.
We are passionate about this piece and aim is to have 100+ choirs perform BELIEVE ME across the country this fall as we approach the 2020 presidential election.
Please let us know by May 1st if you are interested to have your choir bring this piece to life.
Musically yours,
Ryan and Susan
