The Bananas
Emptying The Finale Folder: “The Bananas!”
I take this out of my Finale Folder with great fear of what the very serious musicians might think about this piece. There is nothing serious about “The Bananas” except the beautiful music that I have used or misused (abused). If you are ever looking for something funny for a concert, you might continue reading and listening. If not, you might now move on to the next post.
This was written for a concert by The Texas Voices entitled “The Joy of Food” (Alan Dyer, Director, Jim Loeffler, Accompanist). This was also an opportunity for the audience to donate food for a local pantry. When I thought about what I could contribute to this concert, the same song kept coming into my head. After hearing this song, you will hear bits and pieces from Theodorakas (Zorba the Greek), Bach, Handel, and Vivaldi. For the use, misuse of this wonderful music, I seek forgiveness.
You will find performance suggestions in the score, but you will notice a lot of ad libbing going on as you listen. Please feel free to add your own for the enjoyment of your audience. Score is available on Sheet Music Plus. A Big thanks to Michael Duff for his help with the piano Intro. Thank you if you are still reading. Tom Council
