Consortio, the revolutionary consortium marketplace connecting composers and ensembles, will focus on an upcoming project every week throughout the summer. This week’s spotlight is on Kyle Pederson’s “When Christmas Morn Is Dawning,” which will be for SATB, SA, and TB (3 different voicings of the same work) with piano and optional clarinet.
This is a re-envisioning of a hymn tune, and Kyle connects it to his ideas about the upcoming work: “When Christmas Morn is Dawning is a beautiful German folk tune, with surprisingly few choral settings. My setting will incorporate new, original text suitable across denominations, and will include a free-flowing (but accessible) piano accompaniment and an optional clarinet part. If my arrangement of A Mighty Fortress is Our God resonates with you, then this project will be a perfect fit. (You can hear/see the score of A Mighty Fortress as part of my Consortio profile by simply clicking on my name at the top of this page.)
I envision this piece to be ambient, reflective (but with moments of build/drama), contemporary-sounding, well-crafted, and entirely accessible to choir and audience/congregation.”
Help this important message become a reality by joining today. The deadline to join is September 2nd with a score delivery of October 1st in time for the start of the Christmas season.
Consortio is making commissioning easier, more accessible, and more impactful for all involved. Most of the consortium projects on Consortio cost only a fraction more than the purchase of a set of octavos, so a new music experience is available to nearly everyone.
