Celebration of Hymns New York City

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On September 18, 2016 at 3:15 pm Bright Temple AME Church will present HYMNS an afternoon singing some of the most beloved hymns of the Christian faith. Music Director Gregory Sheppard will lead the Bright Temple Choir, soloist and organist in a program that begins with African American devotional hymns sung unaccompanied. Thereafter, the choir will perform three hymns from the standard repertoire including All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name and I Need Thee Every Hour. Mr. Sheppard has arranged a gospel version of the hymn Precious Name and the choir will also present James Davis’ arrangement of Revive Us Again. Mr. Davis is Minister of Music and Worship Arts for the historic Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem. The afternoon closes with God Be with You till We Meet Again. Guest organist will be Dr. R. Kenneth Thornton, Minister of Music & Arts, Salem United Methodist Church located at the Village of Harlem, New York City.

The program is a benefit for the music ministry of Bright Temple. A freewill offering with a suggested donation of $20 will be received. The music ministry will host A TASTE OF BRIGHT TEMPLE, a luncheon between 1:00 pm and 2:45 pm before the concert. The cost for the luncheon is $10. Following the performance all are invited to a dessert and coffee reception.

Bright Temple AME Church is located on 812 Faile Street in the Hunts Point section of the Bronx. Rev. Sherwyn James is the pastor. For information call 646-275-6349 to speak directly with Mr. Sheppard
