2020 Digital Togetherness via Online Choir.
Diversity, Inclusion, Acceptance and Belonging.
Come Join Us Now.
CUNY is located in one of the sought after metropolitan destinations for being a melting pot of various cultures and race, origins and backgrounds, economic and social well-being—all living together and share their existence. Choral singing is one communal activity that brings peoples together, physically, from learning various genres of music from all over the world, performing these works, and ultimately, to sharing the beauty and essence of the music.
The CUNY Virtual Choir Project will extend this experience to include groups beyond the physical boundaries of a rehearsal space, bringing diverse voices from different campuses into a mix. While traditional choral singing in the same physical space is great, the logistics of combining choirs from more than two campuses become overwhelming. Come join us now, and be part of this first ever cyber CUNY musical collaboration! The two songs featured in this project are “Together Now” (by Angus and Dietz) and “We Are Everywhere“ (by Olgun and Douglas). These songs are fun, catchy and easy to sing along, with strong lyrics celebrating the college’s mission of diversity, inclusion, acceptance and belonging.
Public access submission is available, from February 4 through March 31, 2020. Each of the submitted videos will be synchronized and combined into one single performance to create the Virtual Choir, that will be played and live-streamed during the choral concert—Under One Sky, on May 5, 2020 (7:30 p.m. in Theater II) in BMCC Chambers Street campus.
