iPad for the Choral Director

April 7, 2010 by philip copeland Leave a Comment

I didn’t know that I was going to buy the iPad when I entered the Apple store – I told myself I was going to “look.”  Something took hold of me about 10 seconds after I walked in and I knew that I would be purchasing the device.

I love it.  It is more of a consuming device . . . not for heavy typing (at least, not without a better keyboard – bluetooth or something else).

It is great for light email, reading, playing, and video watching.  Superb, in fact.

Couldn’t agree more– the potential for directors is huge.  I’m going to wait for the next evolution, though, because there are some things that I’d like to see:

Video Out via USB – All-in-one media box, right?  Perfect– but I want to show my You/School/TeacherTube videos on the projector to the whole ensemble.

Video Camera – Instant publishing/uploading of rehearsal.  Fabulous.

Multitasking – Playing audio while transcribing parts.

I love the idea, and given different circumstances, I’d already have one, but the iPad just opened the door- some reports suggest as many as 50 similar devices on the market by Q3, many of which will offer additional functions like my wish list above.
