My passion for the English language nearly eclipses my love of music. Over 2000 choirs have performed my music, from VocalEssence to the entire student body of Waunakee Elementary School.
Critics have called my music "contemplative and hopeful," "awesomely fresh," and "particularly potent," with praise for its "elegance..., subtle, unexpected harmonic turns, and freshness within a well-known language." But my favorite response was from Philadelphia’s Broad Street Review, in which the critic called one of my works “the most personally moving piece I encountered between Thanksgiving and Twelfth Night.” (No one needs anything more than that.)
My frequent commissions include orchestral, choral, chamber and solo works. I read voraciously, shamelessly encourage my teenagers’ jokes, and tend my garden during the three month period that is not winter. I have the best job in the world.
