Location: Missouri, USA
I am currently the Choir Director for Lamar R-1 Schools in Lamar, Missouri. I teach 6-12 Choir, Music Appreciation, and assist with Beginning Band. I am a father of four (2 girls/2 boys), and have been married to my wife since November of 1998. I love spending time with my family, playing video games with my boys and playing in general with my girls! They are my life's joy and the inspiration for all my accomplishments.
I enjoy many styles and genres of music from progressive rock to opera to orchestral movie soundtracks. I have a special interest in composing music, and enjoy learning new techniques for teaching and conducting. I have also had experience with percussion - playing for over 25 years. I double majored in percussion performance and vocal performance in college. I decided to drop the percussion side due only to the fact that I couldn't spend enough time on either path, choosing instead to double major in vocal performance and music education. I enjoy teaching voice lessons, drum lessons, guitar lessons and beginning piano lessons.
In the Spring of 2004, I composed a wind ensemble piece entitled Theme for a Hero, premiered by the Pittsburg State University Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Craig Fuchs. Also in 2004, I composed a patriotic choral work entitled I Watched Them Go based on a poem of the same title by Jerry Plantz - the Poet of Patriotism (www.jerryplantz.com). It premiered to a long standing ovation by Pittsburg State University's Chorale under my direction with the poet in presence. I have written numerous other pieces for my high school choir specifically since. In the Fall of 2011, I hosted a Poetry Competition to promote creativity in the Language Arts Department in Lamar, with the winning poem being set to music and performed by the Lamar High School Concert Choir.
To me, music gives life not only beauty but meaning, without which we would lead dull and soulless lives. I thank God everyday for the blessings he has bestowed on me and the opportunity to glorify His name through my talents.
