Joseph Young is a full-time DMA student at Boston University studying choral conducting with Ann Howard Jones. He received his B.M.E. from Illinois State University and his M.M. from the University of Illinois (Champaign-Urbana). Born and raised in Illinois, Mr. Young has taught music since 1991 at all levels, including college. He also has extensive experience as an arts administrator, working for the Merit School of Music in Chicago, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Tanglewood Institute of Boston University. An active singer, Mr. Young has sung with several professional chamber choirs in the Chicago area. He currently serves the Massachusetts Chapter of ACDA (American Choral Directors Association) as Treasurer.
Mr. Young enjoys swimming, cycling, and running. He hopes one day to complete an Ironman Triathlon. In his other free time, Mr. Young enjoys composing and arranging music for choral ensembles and reading (nonfiction mostly). Mr. Young is a life-long devoted Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and lives in Quincy with his wife Tara and children Evan (5) and Charlotte (4).
