Scott Dorsey

Scott W. Dorsey is the Director of Education & Communication for the American Choral Directors Association in Oklahoma City.  A tenured full professor of choral music prior to joining the ACDA National Staff, Scott has led choral programs at Montana State University-Billings, Mount Union College, the University of Northern Iowa, Vennard College, and William Penn College.  Choral ensembles under his direction have been honored with invitations to appear before the American Theatre Festival, the Congress of the United States, the College Music Society and before the global conference of the United Methodist Church in Cleveland’s famed Severance Hall.
     Scott is no stranger to ACDA, having held numerous service and leadership roles in the Association.  Nationally, he has served ACDA continually since 1992 as the bibliographer of the Choral Journal, a responsibility that grew out of his work as the author of Volume No. Seven in the ACDA Monograph Series and has led to the recent the release of the comprehensive searchable online resource, The Choral Journal: An Index to Volumes 19-51.  He served on ACDA’s Youth and Student Activities Committee for thirteen years, with almost half of those years spent as the committee’s National Chair.  Scott was the Treasurer for the Central Division for two years and is currently in his fourth term as the Program Chair for the ACDA Central Division Conference.
     An active writer, Scott has published articles in The Choral Journal, The Music Educator’s Journal, the Montana Professor, as well as various newspapers, newsletters, and magazines.  In addition to the aforementioned monograph, he served thirteen years as editor of the ACDA Student Times, and was a contributing author to Up Front! Becoming the Complete Choral Conductor published by E.C. Schirmer.  A commercially rated pilot and former flight instructor, he has also published articles in Private Pilot and Plane & Pilot magazines.
     Scott holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Iowa, the Master of Arts degree in Choral Conducting from California State University, and the Bachelor of Arts degree in Voice from Nebraska Wesleyan University.
