Fort Wayne Children's Choir Announces Appleseed Children's Choir Festival
Date: April 24, 2014
Location: Indiana, USA
Following a great inaugural festival in May 2013, the Fort Wayne Children’s Choir is proud to host the Appleseed Children’s Choir Festival for Young Voices, June 20-22, 2014! This is a fantastic event designed specifically for intermediate children’s choirs.
The 2014 Appleseed Children’s Choir Festival is thrilled to welcome the Ames Children’s Choir from Ames, Iowa. The Ames Children’s Choirs (ACC) was founded in 1995, by Dr. Sylvia Munsen, the Artistic Director of 16 years until June 2011. ACC program includes boys and girls ages 8-16 from central Iowa communities singing in three choirs: Concert Choir, Chorale and the Preparatory Choir. ACC focuses on the development of self-esteem through artistic experience. It is a notable and well respected children’s choral society. Starting in August 2013, ACC programs have been under the directions of Ms Jade Fox and Mrs. Misty Renze.
Joining the Ames Children's Choir will be the Lyric and Treble Choirs of the Fort Wayne Children’s Choir. The Fort Wayne Children’s Choir strives to provide a music education program through music literacy, instruction, and performance. The Lyric Choir is led by Phyllis Boester who has taught with the organization for 17 years. The Treble Choir is led by Steve Snyder who is enjoying his second year teaching with the FWCC. Both Boester and Snyder hold Kodály Certificates from Capital University. Over 100 singers will have the opportunity to work with our guest conductor Emily Ellsworth, Artistic Director of ANIMA - Young Singers of Greater Chicago (formerly the Glen Ellyn Children's Chorus).
Musically this Festival promises to be enriching, educational, and rewarding. Ms. Ellsworth will choose music specifically for the younger ensembles, with students in approximately grades 5-8, for an inspiring mass choir experience. In addition, ensembles may choose to perform in the final concert for the entire audience. Fort Wayne, known as the City of Churches, offers ensembles the option to participate in and sing for morning worship on Sunday.
All rehearsals, as well as the final concert, will be held at Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW), at the Rhinehart Music Center . Completed in 2007, this state-of-the-art facility was designed specifically for acoustic music. The 1500 seat Auer Performance Hall is a pride of the community, and is a phenomenal place to sing.
The Festival will conclude with a free concert for community members to enjoy on Sunday, June 22 at 4pm at IPFW Rhinehart Music Center. Mark your calendars now for this wonderful demonstration of young people making beautiful music.
