GOING BEYOND WORDS EXPLORES A NEW RECORDING OF THE "MOZART REQUIEM"

Location: South Dakota, USA
Going Beyond Words continues its Lenten Series (#4) again this Sunday, March, 30, 2014.   The program, now in its 21st year can be heard at Noon Sundays, Central Time on KVNO.ORG.   Just Click on Listen to Classical.   All of the discs heard on this show are new.  You will hear works by Thomas Tallis and John Stainer offered by The Choir of Clare College Cambriege and The Cardinall's Musick.

There have been, perhaps five hearings of the Mozart Requiem on Going Beyond Words over a 20 year period.  The number of recordings available is mind boffling.   What awaits you is the new look at Mozart by the New Siberian Singers and the Musica Aeterna Orchestra, both ensembles are involved with the Novosbrisk State Opera.   These musicians perform a verywide range of repetoire and on this disc they sound like they are playing in a historically informed way on period instruments.   The record was made in 2010 and released about 2012.   The results are very striking.

Both the Orchestra and Chorus number around 30 people and the conductor takes full advantage of the speed and flexibility that this gives him. You will hear a rather spare quantity of Sound and excellent balances from the Orchestra.  The conductor's speeds are distinctly brisk and both the chorus and orchestra take them impressively in their stride.  With Vibrato kept to a mininum on all sides the fast passages come over superbly with some controlled singing by the choir.   Also of note is the artistic adaption of marvelous and stunning dynamics.
