Masters Programs

Hi all,

Can anyone recommend great masters programs for vocal pedagogy?  I live in NYC, but am willing to move.  Top three areas are NYC, California, or England.  Varied, I know.  Thanks in advance!

Dr. Stephen F. Austin at the University of North Texas. You can't do better. http://music.unt.edu/faculty-and-staff/detail/2

Penn State - the program is fairly small so you get a lot of opportunities and the small class environments are great for discussion and teaching opportunities.  http://music.psu.edu/admissions/degrees/master-music-pedagogy-and-performance-track-voice

England (or the UK, if that's what you mean - admittedly there's not much in Scotland, Wales or Ireland that would help you) is probably not your best bet, to be honest. Vocal pedagogy isn't taught much at the highest level, and I'm not aware of any masters' programs that specialise in it. The best conductors of young choirs here are either schoolteachers with a considerable conducting talent, or conductors who have developed into pedagogues - I don't know of any who started out as conductors of young choirs.

Westminster Choir College. Just take NJ Transit down to Princeton Junction. Not much easier than that!
