Refurbishing choral risers

I have an older set of Wenger Tourmaster risers. They are in good mechanical shape but look a bit worn in appearance. Has anyone had any experience with refurbishing similar risers? I'm wondering in particular about potentially dying the carpet and also maybe painting the metal trim pieces. Anyone have any success stories or advice?

I don't have actual experience refurbishing risers, but would strongly advise consulting Wenger, for safety's sake (and possible liability).  Some paints can be very slippery, and dye solutions might dissolve glue used to fasten the carpet.
