Preparing your chorus for a better 2014...

If your chorus leadership team was asked to come up with a list of three items that should be included on your "stop doing" list in 2014, what items would be included on that list?

Maybe you could clarify whether you mean:
  • Things the singers should stop doing (coming late to rehearsal, chatting with neighbors, too much perfume)
  • Things the conductor should stop doing (mouthing the words, throwing chairs, conducting the rhythm rather than the meter)
  • Things the organization should stop doing (hackneyed concert programs, too many free tickets, expensive printed programs)
It's tough to self-reflect on something like this since things we think are important to change, in many cases we've already changed, so you're likely to get a bunch of bad habits with are hard to change, like New Years' resolutions. But most things which need changing aren't the original problems, but rather ineffective solutions which aren't working (e.g. yelling at the on-time singers because their colleagues are late).

The question was aimed at chorus leadership, administrative and musical.
