Hamilton Children’s Choir Finalists in the ‘2009 Let the People Sing’ Euroradio Choral Competition – Oslo, Norway
The Hamilton Children’s Choir is the only choir from all of North America to become finalists in the 2009 “Let the People Sing’ Euroradio Choral competition scheduled for Sunday October 18, 2009. This prestigious competition selects only a maximum of 9 choirs from around the world as finalists. The invitation is an honour and an opportunity for our children, for our community and for our country.
The “Let the People Sing’ Euroradio Choral Competition is organized every two years under the auspices of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and is open to amateur choruses presented in the form of audio recordings. The 2009 Competition is being co-ordinated by Norwegian Radio (NRK) who is the host organization. There are two rounds to this competition, semi-finals and finals. To be considered for this competition, an EBU Radio Member is entitled to present as many choruses for the following categories: Children’s Choruses, Youth Choruses and Adult Choruses. The Hamilton Children’s Choir (HCC) was one of the choirs CBC Radio submitted as consideration for this competition and the only choir submitted that was selected as a finalist. The HCC will compete live via satellite into Oslo, Norway from Glenn Gould Studio in Toronto. The overall winner, to be awarded the Silver rose Bowl Trophy, will be selected for most convincing performance and will be announced at the end of the competition. Background
For 35 years the Hamilton Children’s Choir has gathered children together in song, enriching their lives and the lives of those touched by their magnificent music. Under the guidance of Ms Zimfira Poloz, Artistic Director and gifted artistic staff, the Choir offers over 150 young people aged 4 – 24 years the unique opportunity to learn and grow through the study of choral music. They share their musical gift with concerts and performances throughout Hamilton and Southern Ontario, adding to the cultural life of our community. Auditions are held in May of each year.
The Hamilton Children’s Choir is the only children’s choir to have been selected as a finalist in this world known competition which is an honour in itself. This recognition is a reflection of the calibre and commitment of our choristers and artistic staff.
