"Gospels Plus", Amaryllis Women's Choir, Vankleek Hill, OntarioDate: May 25, 2009 Views: 2473 Location: Ontario, Canada Choir type: Community Choirs Voicing: Women
Amaryllis Women's Choir winds up its 13th season with a very special programme. We start with a rousing rendition
of a traditional French Canadian folk song, spoons and all, framed by two very effective boat songs by Canadian composers/arrangers. These are followed by three French "pop" songs, albeit from different countries.
And there's more!
Following the spectacular April "spirituals" workshop, presented by Cindy Pribble of North Carolina, Amaryllis shares a musical and oral presentation on the history and evolution of the African American spiritual.
From "authentic" spirituals, originating with the slaves of the southern USA, to modern "Gospels", Amaryllis will explore the musical context and characteristics of these extraordinarily moving pieces.
