Login and registration help
The registration form asks you for three pieces of information:
Your real name. This will be publicly attached to any forum message, classified ad, or other content you contribute to ChoralNet. We don't allow the use of pseudonyms, since this is a professional society. There's no way to change your user name via ChoralNet tools; you'll have to appeal to ChoralNet's admins for help if you get married or otherwise change your name.
Your email address. This is what you'll use to identify yourself for login purposes, and we'll use it to send you subscriptions if you choose, and to send you messages indirectly via your "Contact this user" button. However, other users won't be able to see this address, and we'll make every effort to keep it private; we'll never sell it or give it away to other organizations.
Your location, a country or state/province. This helps us keep track of where our users are in the world, and allows users of similar locations to find one another.
There's also a captcha, a squiggly word you have type correctly. This is to keep automated programs from creating a whole bunch of usernames on our system for evil purposes. If you can't decipher it you can click on the buttons at right to get a new one.
Once you are registered, you'll be emailed a password which you must use to login the first time. Once you've logged in you can change the password to something you find easier to remember.
Each time you login, you must provide your email address and password. If you are using your own computer, you can check the "keep me logged in" box so you won't have to login every time. This doesn't last forever, though (a few months at most), so don't lost track of your password in the meantime.
Usually the first page you see when you login is your user page; this will remind you to keep this up-to-date. However, if you logged in after clicking on some feature that requires login (such as "Post forum message"), you'll be taken to the form you were looking for once the login is completed.
My ChoralNet menu
When you're logged in, you'll see a new menu named My ChoralNet. This contains tools specific to your account:
My user profile. This is a public profile which other users can see; use it to present your professional identity. This is also where you go to change your email address, if necessary.
Read my subscriptions. A viewer which you can customize to show only the site content which interests you.
Subscription email options. You can have your subscriptions emailed to you in separate emails, in a daily digest, as an index of title, or mix and match. You can also turn on and off your ChoralNet Daily subscription here.
Location. The name of this item will be your state, province, or country. This shows all the site content in your area.
Change password. Self explanatory.
Log out. Ditto.
