Venues: Great Acoustic Spaces of the US and Canada

COMPILATION: Great Acoustic Spaces for Choral Music - U.S. and Canada
(December 2, 2000)

Thanks to the many, many people who contributed to this compilation. And
for your many ideas about the future development of this as a resource.
Several of us have envisioned this as an on-going resource, evolving
into a searchable database, with much more extensive information on each
venue: seating capacity, stage size, parking, handicap access, organ
availability, rental fees, web site, contact information, etc.

For now, I will continue to collect and assemble the basic information
as presented here. In this first installment, I'm including only U.S.
and Canadian venues; I'll continue to gather others from around the
world and post them in an updated compilation in the near future, if
there is interest.

Good luck with all of your December concerts. We send you holiday
greetings from beautiful Colorado.

Original Request:

Friends,

Where are the VERY BEST places to sing in your state or region? I'm
planning to assemble a list of "great acoustic spaces" for choral music,
organized by geographic location. I have discussed this request with
David Topping (Choralist manager), and I'm hoping that the list will be
an available resource for all. This list might be particularly useful
for those who assemble concert tours. If you go to the trouble of
touring with an ensemble, it is certainly more enjoyable and rewarding
to perform in a great acoustic rather than a dead, dry hall.

In your touring and concert-going experiences, I'm sure that you all
have come across spaces that are particularly excellent for choirs. Not
just "pretty good" - I'd like to list just the very best spaces in each
region. I realize that this is a rather subjective analysis, and of
course, such spaces may be better for different ensembles or different
repertoires.

If you can take a few moments, please submit to me (privately):

Name (and Address, if possible) of Venue
City and State of Venue

I will compile and post the results.
