Dear Listers,

Some time back I sent out a query seeking recommendations for SATB
literature with harp accompaniment, to include on a program with the
Britten "Ceremony of Carols." As it turns out, with your help I found
so many excellent choices that we are only singing one movement of
the Britten! The pieces I've selected are listed below:

* = indicates selections we're performing out of published sets.

Stephen Paulus "Three Nativity Carols" (1. The Holly and the Ivy*; 2.
This Endris Night; 3. Wonder Tidings)
Paulus Publications (

Donna Gartman Schultz "He Is Born!" (The Sacred Music Press 10/1245 S)

Dale Warland (arr.) "Huron Carol" (Colla Voce Music 37-21017)

Jeffrey Van (arr.) "The Friendly Beasts" (Colla Voce Music 37-21023)

John Tavener "The Lamb" (Chester Music 555570) - acappella

Kirke Mechem "Seven Joys of Christmas" ECS 2709
1. This is the Truth; 2. Din Don! Merrily on High; 3.
Joseph Dearest, Joseph Mine; 4. Pat-a-pan*; 5. New Year Song; 6. Fum,
fum, fum!*; 7. God bless the master of this house

Barbara Harlow (arr.) "Silent Night" (Santa Barbara Music SBMP 643)

Thanks so much for your helpful suggestions!

I have written The Shepherd and the King
for mixed chorus and harp. Duration ca. 3 minutes.
Poem of Eleanor Farjeon. Moderately easy.
Published by William Thorpe. It won the
