My answer does not fit quite exactly your question, because the source is
not ENGLISH, but INTERNATIONAL with a big french contribution.

Nevertheless, I thought that you (David Puderbaugh) and other choralisters
might be interested in knowing what comes out from MUSICA International
databank on the search with the keyword FRENCH REVOLUTION.
(to be quite honest, the search was the word "REVOLUTION" crossed with
"18"th century, and I removed from the result 2 or 3 musics which were
"noise" in the "signal")

Here follows a list of 45 titles. An interesting fact that I noticed and
that you cannot do hereafter, because e-mail does not allow me (yet) to send
you the musical themes, is that an abnormally big number of these musics
begin with the same 4 first notes (those of "La Marseillaise", the french
national hymn)...!

Wondering if you might have read this article by Martin Herman, "The Turbulent
Career of Jean-Francois Le Sueur, Maitre de Chapelle: A Source Study of His
Sacred Music and the Circumstances Surrounding Its Composition," in RECHERCHES
SUR LA MUSIQUE FRANCAISE CLASSIQUE, IX (1969) pp. 187-215.

Another article which might be useful for your paper is by Conrad Donakowski,
"Singing the City of Man: Music as Expression of Mass Feeling in the French
Revolution," in A MUSE FOR THE MASSES: RITUAL AND MUSIC IN AN AGE OF DEMOCRATIC
REVOLUTION, 1770-1870. Chicago: The University of Chicago Press, 1977.

Oh yes, there is another book, which is quite new, on this subject, entitled
MUSIC AND THE FRENCH REVOLUTION, edited by Malcolm Boyd and published by The
Cambridge University Press in 1992 (?). I haven't checked it out yet, but I
think you can't miss it when writing a paper within this subject area.
