United States of America

August 1-31, 2002

On this page Manfred and I would like to show you some photographic impressions of our month in the States, plus collect some information we found helpful "along our way"...

Auf dieser Seite im Web möchten Manfred und ich einige Photoimpressionen unseres Monats in den USA zeigen und zusätzlich ein wenig Information, die uns nützlich war, sammeln...

General links:

Minneapolis:
A great city, with very hospitable and friendly people. Very culture-oriented, and definitely worth the visit if you can arrange it with your tour plans.
We were lucky enough to have local hosts, which - obviously - made the thing much easier; still, there are a few possibilities without having this privilege as well.
In case you're trying to save money on your trip I can recommend the Minneapolis Hostel, which can be reached through clicking here. Very helpful and friendly staff there, in my opinion. They are situated well in the center of the city and they also have bicycles for rent. Or else you plan on using the campsite of the city... Otherwise, Minneapolis is beautiful but unfortunately rather high-priced. Be aware of that fact in your financial planning of the trip...

Rocky Mountains NP:
Affordable accommodation relatively close to the park can be found at Grand Lake: Shadowcliff hostel is situated beautifully on a hill above the lake! For booking and contact click here!

Moab:
Accommodation: Hostel is small but neat and friendly; and has great rates! Private rooms available, internet access (pay machine) as well. The hostel has a homepage at Lazy Lizard Home Page. Contact: click here!

Backcountry permits for "wilderness hikes" in the Vermillion Cliffs::
Contact the Bureau of Land Mangement - Kanab, UT!

Great accommodation at "Uncle Bill's Place"! Contact: click here!

Grand Canyon NP:
By all means: If you can, avoid the South Rim! There are thousands of tourists there, and the park is hopelessly overcrowded! It was probably our only very unpleasant experience in the whole month of traveling! I can only suggest you see the North Rim. It has very beautiful, and at some places even deserted, outlooks, and if you come for the nature experience you will just love it!
For accommodation directly at the Lodge at the Rim you better come early as they can, naturally, only accommodate a certain number of people. The requests and bookings can be made via the Web. (Email addresses are at the bottom of their page.)

Tucson, AZ:
A good and reasonable place to stay at is the Roadrunner Hostel. But there is still a lot more to be done and seen in the region!

New Mexico Links:

Durango - Mesa Verde Links:
Need affordable and friendly and clean accommodation? The "Enchanted Mesa Motel" in Mancos is situated very close to the National Park and offers very good service at reasonable fees. Highly recommended after personal experience there! If you are interested, contact them by clicking here!
Hope this helps for your personal planning, too!
