Favorite Lullabye

What is your favorite lullabye?
I am looking for SATB, A Cappella, any language, short, simple, & sweet.
But I would love to hear people's favorite regardless of these restrictions.

Thank you for your assistance,
Adam Beeken
DMA Candidate and Director of University of Kentucky Choristers

I love 'Baloo Baleerie' published by Alliance in two version (SSA and SATB with piano). The melody is exactly right but the words (in Gaelic) have a slightly sinister and unexpected twist.

Adam,

Go through the archives of the feature "Favorite piece of the month" of Musica  (http://www.musicanet.org ). There are some outstanding lullabies that have been selected there since 1998!

Have fun...

"Sleep, My Baby" is published by Colla Voce.  There is a file on their website.

Hello Adam,

I you go to http://www.donaldpatriquin.com/Sortilege,_Epitaphs,_Ladies_Long_in_the_Tooth,_Lullaby,_Patriquin_Choral_Music_SSA_SATB.html  and listen to Lullaby and like it, please contact me for a pdf! (The pdf button appears not to work presently, and I am in the throes of working on a new website). The recording was done by a university choral ensemble.

My absolute favorite is: LULLABYE (Goodnight, My Angel) by Billy Joel. A wonderful choral arrangement has been done by Kirby Shaw and offered thru, I believe, Hal Leonard. It is guaranteed to touch the heart and moisten the eyes.

That was exactly what I was thinking!

Kirk Young has an outstanding a cappella arrangement of Lullabye (Goodnight, My Angel) voiced for either SSAA or TTBB.  http://youtu.be/iUvTisnICFQ

Adolphus Hailstork's CAROL FOR ALL CHILDREN.
It is SATB a cappella, slow and gorgeous.
It begins with the words, "Sleep, sleep little child, may the world adore you."
Not all carols are Christmas carols.   This carol is for any time of year.

Hi Adam,

My piece Winged Lullaby (SATB, vibraphone, cello) was given a beautiful premiere by the Syracuse University Concert Choir after winning the Gregg Smith Composition Contest earlier this year. You can hear the piece and preview the score at the above link!

Thanks,
Dale

One of my favorites is Kirby Shaw's arrangement of the Billy Joel song, "Lullaby (Goodnight, My Angel)."

You can listen to it on Kirby Shaw's website if the link I pasted below works.

A 2nd favorite is Eric Whitacre's "The Seal Lullaby." The Stanford Summer Community Chorus sang this recently and it sounded wonderful. You can hear it it on Eric Whitacre's website, below.

One of Billy Joel's most poignant and beautiful songs in an a cappella setting. Tears are a guarantee for everyone. I dedicated this to my daughter, so it must be good!
