Call for Scores - Nova Vocal Ensemble Season 3

Location: California, USA
Choir type: Chamber Choirs and Vocal Ensembles
Voicing: Mixed
Nova Vocal Ensemble is proud to announce a call for scores for two of its projects.

First is its third choral season. Our theme for 2014-2015 is Something Old, Something New. As such, all of the pieces on each program will have elements of older music presented or rehashed in a new way.

Our fall concert is tentatively called "Folk Mass." The first half will juxtapose arrangements of folk songs by living composers with contemporary pieces that heavily weave Gregorian chant into their compositional fabric, culminating in a piece that uses both melodic elements, a movement from Paul Chihara's Missa Carminum Brevis. The second half of the concert is dedicated to the manipulation of famous pieces of classical music, sometimes the whole piece, into a totally new piece.

Our Christmas concert looks to present familiar carols harmonized in resplendent and luminous new ways.

Our spring concert is tentatively called "America Singing," and it will feature familiar American songs arranged and re-composed in unique ways.

If composers have pieces that could fit each of these themes, please send a sample of the score (one or two pages of the score are fine, or a non-printable pdf also works) to novavocalensemble@gmail.com. Nova is happy to pay for score licensing/actual scores and have a video recording of your piece if it is selected. However, we are not yet interested in commissioning new pieces. We generally prefer shorter pieces, up to 6 minutes in length, divisi up to 8.

Our second project is a new recital series. Nova's talented professional singers will present a short recital of contemporary works in August and in March, and we would love to perform new works for solo voice and piano or duet and piano. Organ, piano, and solo violin pieces may also be considered. These pieces do not necessarily have to follow a theme. Again, we are not commissioning at this time.

If these projects are of interest, please email jonathanjamesbautista@gmail.com for more information. Thank you.
