Simple contemporary a cappella music

I am looking for a simple, yet fun, contemporary/pop a cappella song, SAB or SATB, that would work for a large group (44). I'm trying to introduce my beginning high school choir to the world of contemporary a cappella, but they are a large group, and I have 32 girls and 12 boys. Most of the boys are inexperienced so the T/B parts can't be too difficult.

I'm really familiar with a cappella pop/contemporary music, but most of what I have is too difficult for this group or not appropriate for the numbers I have. Thanks so much for any suggestions!

Shut De Do - always a hit with my HS students.

The Deke Sharon stuff that's available through JW Pepper is solid and reliable, although some of it is more difficult than it appears on paper once you are in rehearsal.  Off the top of my head, his arrangement of "I'm Yours" learns fairly quickly - 3 mens parts, but I reassigned T1 to the girls.  Find three chord pop tunes with memorable bass lines and arrange them your self - "Steal My Kisses" by Ben Harper comes to mind.  Good luck!  With a large choir doing collegiate style pop a cappella I usually find you need to mic the soloist while keeping the rest of the ensemble acoustic, but that can work well.  Also, "Good Ole A Cappella" - re-assign the written ensemble leads as individual solos.  "For the Longest Time" is an a cappella warhorse, but fun.

Hi Leigh,
I've just written a piece for my choir here in Oxford. It's called Dawn Rainbow. I've kept the lines (mostly) straightforward whilst remaining faithful to the text. Let me know if you're interested and I'll send you a study score.
Best wishes,
John

Kirby Shaw here. Go to Kirbyshaw.com and choose A Cappella and SATB..up will pop a large list of pieces with full recordings. Speaking of a cappella, check out Doin' It A Cappella and A Cappella...both upbeat originals of mine, not hard, and fun to sing. The community choir I direct here in Ashland, Oregon opened our recent winter quarter concerts with Doin' It A Cappella with the choir sitting/standing/kneeling at the front of the stage with some singers standing on the floor in front of the stage. A nice audience roar followed...always a good sign that we did something right! Bouncing off of David's comments ...I've recently arranged Jason Mrasz's I'm Yours for the Barbershop Harmony Society in TTBB, SSAA and SATB voicings...Barbershop is on a new roll these days..check them out!
