I would like to invite you to participate in the 2nd annual National Capitol Choir Festival in Washington DC, May 23-25, 2014. We would like to invite individual singers and ensembles to be a part of this Festival. If you are going to be in the DC area during the Memorial Day Weekend, we invite you to consider participation.
First of all, the festival is about making terrific music. We invite you to join Composer/Conductor, Dr. John Leavitt, in rehearsals and performance in the beautiful National City Christian Church, where President Lyndon Johnson attended. This historic church will provide the backdrop for a wonderful and memorable music making experience.
Rehearsals for the Massed Choir are scheduled for Friday, May 23 and Saturday, May 24 (4 hours each) and a dress rehearsal and performance at The National City Christian Church (Thomas Circle) on Sunday, May 25.
Our program will reflect heavily on our history as Americans and feature great hymns, spirituals, and folksongs native to our country. Participants are responsible for the purchase and preparation af all music.
The program is as follows:
Symphony of Songs, SATB, Leavitt, Augsburg Fortress, 9780800621360
All Good Gifts, SATB, Leavitt, Hal Leonard, 08621808
A Treasury of Song, SATB, Hal Leonard, 08751678
An American Quilt, SATB, Leavitt, Hal Leonard, 08740972
River in Judea, SATB, Marcus/Feldman, arr. Leavitt, Hal Leonard, HL 35018430
Second, Washington DC provides a superlative backdrop of history, culture, and sightseeing. Experience history at great monuments and museums at some of my favorites such as the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, the Smithsonian Museum which includes the famous Air and Space Museum, the National Archives which houses our country’s founding documents including the Declaration of Independence and Constitution, the Capitol Building, and the White House. Walk the National Mall and see the War Memorials. Take a solemn and historic tour of Arlington National Cemetery. Easy access of the DC Metro makes getting around Washington a snap.
So come join us as we make beautiful music in National Capitol Choir Festival over the Memorial Day Weekend in our Nation's Capitol.
Inspiring and captivating experiences await you!
