PT Organist/Collaborative Pianist, UUWellesley, MA
Date: February 27, 2014
Location: Wellesley, MA , Massachusetts, USA
The Unitarian Universalist Society of Wellesley Hills seeks a part-time organist/collaborative pianist to play three services a month for Sunday morning worship. Duties include hymn playing (primarily at the organ), special service music such as Preludes, Postludes, and Anthems (from the classical, organ repertory), and collaborative work with our adult choir (mainly at the piano).
Services are from 10:30-11:30 each Sunday morning, and the keyboardist is expected to play for the 9-10 AM rehearsal on the two Sundays each month the choir performs. The keyboardist will have one Sunday each month off with the ability to request, in advance, their days to arrange for substitute opportunities, vacations, etc... Our church year runs from September through June with lay-led services (no staff or organist) in July and August. The keyboardist will be expected to play on Christmas Eve evening.
Compensation is $200 per service. Any duties outside those listed above will be paid a negotiated rate with the Music Director. The church keyboardist also has first-bid rights for any weddings/events that take place in the church and will be compensated by the parties directly.
Ideally, we are searching for a long-term organist who will easily meld into the overall community at UUWellesley. Our congregation is open, friendly, and thoroughly appreciative of the music provided for the service. This role is very flexible, and would be a perfect position to complement a more full-time role elsewhere. Furthermore, our keyboardist would have priority access to our organ, pianos, and space for practice, teaching lessons, and giving recitals/hosting concerts.
The lofted organ, Opus 70 of the Andover Organ Company, Inc, of Methuen, MA, was installed in 1972. It has 1564 pipes, 22 stops, and 32 ranks on its three divisions, Swell, Great, and Pedal. The key action is mechanical, the stop action and combination action are electrical. Two well-maintained Steinways are located in both the Chapel and Sanctuary.
Please send a letter of application, a résumé/CV, and best times for a Monday-Friday live audition/interview to Tyler Turner, Music Director, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
