The Contra Costa Children’s Chorus (CCCC) has been providing high quality choral music education to children in the San Francisco East Bay since its founding in 1984. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Martín Benvenuto, now in his third year with the Chorus, CCCC is poised for a period of dynamic growth. The Chorus program includes 4 levels of sequential and comprehensive musical training, an Honors ensemble, a Summer Music Institute, and its own summer musical theatre program, Theatre Arts for Kids.
CCCC’s administrative staff consists of a part-time Chorus Manager (the current opening), who oversees two other part-time employees: the Artistic Program Coordinator and the Finance Manager.
The Chorus Manager reports to the Board of Directors, and is responsible for all day-to-day financial, administrative and fundraising functions related to the daily operations of CCCC. The Chorus Manager works closely with the Artistic Director who is responsible for the artistic program of the Chorus, and who also reports to the Board.
The Chorus Manager is a salaried part-time position working approximately 24 hours per week.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
As the administrative leader of the organization, the Chorus Manager is responsible for a broad range of duties, and responds to a variety of organizational needs. As such, the person in this position should be equipped to prioritize and respond to a wide variety of organizational needs as they arise. In general, the job is comprised of the following broad areas of responsibility:
1. Administrative Operations
The Chorus is staffed by two part-time administrators. The Chorus Manager supervises and works regularly with these staff members to ensure administrative policies and practices that ensure that the day-to-day work of the organization takes place with maximum effectiveness.
2. Community Relations: Recruitment and Visibility
Since the engagement of Martin Benvenuto as Artistic Director in 2011, the Chorus has enjoyed a period of steady growth in enrollment. The Chorus Manager will be expected to support and strengthen this growth, by analyzing the effectiveness of current recruitment efforts, and recommending and implementing alternative methods to achieve the greatest success.
In addition, the Chorus Manager is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with individuals and organizations of interest to the organization, including peer arts organizations, potential funders, prospective chorister families, and potential audiences. The Chorus Manager acts as a spokesperson for CCCC to the media, the school community, and to the public at large.
3. Volunteer Coordination
The Chorus relies on a steady group of volunteers to function at its best. The Chorus Manager will maximize organizational effectiveness by continuously engaging and managing volunteers to help with the general Chorus workload.
4. Financial Oversight and Fundraising
Working with the Board Treasurer and Artistic Director, the Chorus Manager develops the organization’s annual budget and calendar on a timely basis for Board review and approval. He/She will manage the day-to-day expenditures, ensuring the budgetary guidelines are met, and will work with the Finance Manager and Board Treasurer to present regular financial reports to the Board.
The Chorus Manager also works closely with the Artistic Director and the Board to craft a comprehensive fundraising plan, including setting targets for contributed income and implementing tactical approaches to achieve these goals. He or she will then play an integral role in representing the organization to potential funders, and in training, educating, and supporting staff and Board members in their roles.
5. Board Development
The Chorus Manager supports the Board in the ongoing effort to identify specific skills needed on the Board, and orienting, educating, and training new Board members once elected.
The Chorus Manager is an exempt, part-time salaried position. The Chorus Manager is expected to work 24 hours per week on a flexible schedule, with an annual salary of $30K. Benefits include paid vacation and sick leave and an employee-funded 403b.
