Pennsbury HS Choir and the Leipzig Youth Orchestra
Date: February 17, 2014
Location: Pennsylvania, USA
Choir type: School Choirs
The Pennsbury High School Vocal Music Department is very pleased to host the Leipzig Youth Symphony Orchestra (LYSO) from Leipzig, Germany February 19 - 22. The orchestra is from the Musik Schule Johann Sebastian Bach in Leipzig, and is one of the top youth orchestras in Europe.
The Pennsbury High School Choirs began a collaboration with this orchestra in 2008 performing Carl Orff's "Carmina Burnana" with them in the Leipzig Gewandhaus, and again in 2012 performing Mendelssohn's "Pslam 42" and Gershwin's "Porgy and Bess" (Concert Version) in both the Gewandhaus and Prague's Smetana Hall. We are very pleased to be hosting the orchestra here in the United States, and look forward to many more opportunities to perform with our German friends.
On Friday February 21st at 7:30 pm in the Pennsbury High School-West Keller Hall, the LYSO will present a free concert of their tour repertoire including works by Brahms and Mendelssohn. The concert will also include some music from film scores and familiar repertoire. The Pennsbury HS Concert Choir and Women's Ensemble will join the orchestra for two excerpts from Mendelssohn's "Lobgesang" with soloists Kathryn Thomas Moyer and Elizabeth Hohwieler.
