Britten's A Boy Was Born & Pott in St. Louis (MO)
Event Date: December 17, 2013
Posted: December 17, 2013
Location: Missouri, USA
Choir type: Professional Choirs
As part of the Britten 100 worldwide celebrations, the 48 voices of the Saint Louis Chamber Chorus present a rare, complete performance of A Boy Was Born. This ground-breaking cantata (1933) helped to establish his reputation, with its startling originality and complexity. Scored for unaccompanied mixed voices and children's chorus - sung here by the choristers of Parkway North High School - the cantata forms the second half of a program devoted to old and middle English carols. Complementing the Britten are settings by Gustav Holst, Arnold Bax, and Trond Kverno. Distinguished British composer, Francis Pott, also contributes a brand new carol commissioned for the occasion, Good Day, Sir Christëmas.
The performance will be presented just once, on Sunday, December 22 @ 3 pm, in the Gothic setting of St. Luke the Evangelist Church, Richmond Heights, St. Louis. For more information and tickets, visit www.chamberchorus.org., or call (636) 458-4343.
