Pearl: an opera in development (In Two Acts)A Contemporary Re-telling of the Scarlet LetterComposed by Amy Scurria Libretto by Carol Gilligan and Jonathan Gilligan Musical Direction by Sara Jobin Pearl, the daughter of Hester Prynne, now a grown woman, revisits scenes of her childhood. This will be the first workshop performance of the completed score, with piano accompaniment, followed by conversation with the composer, librettists and conductor/ producer.
From Sara Jobin: "As of this posting, the title role soprano has only been able to get through the end once without crying . . . conductor still can't do it. Daughters, bring your mothers. Mothers, bring your adult daughters."
