Pearl:  an opera in development (In Two Acts)

A Contemporary Re-telling of the Scarlet Letter

Composed by Amy Scurria

Libretto by Carol Gilligan and Jonathan Gilligan

Musical Direction by Sara Jobin

Pearl, the daughter of Hester Prynne, now a grown woman, revisits scenes of her childhood.  This will be the first workshop performance of the completed score, with piano accompaniment, followed by conversation with the composer, librettists and conductor/ producer.

From Sara Jobin:  "As of this posting, the title role soprano has only been able to get through the end once without crying . . . conductor still can't do it.  Daughters, bring your mothers.  Mothers, bring your adult daughters."
